How to authenticate the origin of a Canadian diamond

If you are purchasing a Canadian diamond from a Code Signatory member you need a polished diamond certificate/report and a receipt which contains the following information:

  • the polished diamond description
  • a unique Diamond Identification Number (DIN);
  • a statement of certification that the polished diamond(s) is of Canadian origin and address of the issuer of the certificate/report;
  • the retailer’s return policy;
  • the date of purchase; and
  • the name and address of the retailer.

If you have this information, you may submit an Authentication Request:

You can also contact the Code Office info@canadiandiamondcodeofconduct.ca or call 1-866-399-1118 with the information above to start the authentication process.

If you are purchasing a Canadian diamond from a retailer who is not a Code Signatory member, the Code Office can attempt to authenticate the diamond provided the retailer cooperates with the Code Office along with any other parties involved.

In either case, at the completion of the authentication process, you will receive a letter from the Code Office confirming or denying the authentication of the origin.
